Alalá 2016

Avaliação dos peritos
The fourth vintage of their flagship Albariño, the 2016 Alalá was only released 18 months after bottling. It comes from different plots of vines in different villages, from different soils and different ages of vines. The grapes were foot trodden, left for a 28-hour cold soak and then fermented with indigenous yeasts. They aim for a vin de garde that is released later, and in 2016 the extra time in bottle has done the wine good. There is a note of apricot and citrus acidity, and it's fresh even though they picked after the rains that marked the harvest. The palate is austere and sharp, with pungent flavors and good concentration. There is always mildew in Rías Baixas, some years more than others; the mildew lowers yields, and in high yielding years it provides extra concentration. This can be a more concentrated and riper version of 2013. 8,040 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2017. Though the 2017 will not be released for at least one more year, I had a preview of it, and it looked fantastic.
