The 2016 Arx is a blend of 50% Syrah, 35% Tintilla de Rota and 15% Petit Verdot from vines planted in 2010 on clay and limestone soils. The different varieties fermented separately after a four-day cold soak for 20 to 25 days. The wine matured in second use French oak barrels for 12 months. It has a lot less oak than I anticipated, and it's quite fruit-driven and showing varietal aromas from the Syrah. It's clean and nicely crafted in an international style. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and good balance. A nice commercial red. 19,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2017.
