Ambitious, quite spicy, with well-defined blackberry, plum, juniper and rosemary. Silky, supple and with perfumed oak, this is an appealing yet serious style of Malbec.
The berry and floral character comes through clearly on the nose and palate with a medium body, a medium-tannin backbone and a dark-walnut aftertaste. Drink now.
The 2020 Catena Malbec shows plenty of roasted notes, toast and ripe fruit, the result of a warmer and riper vintage in 225-liter oak barrels. It reveals a soft and velvety texture, juicy fruit and polished tannins. It finishes dry and surprisingly more austere than I anticipated. There were 2.28 million bottles produced.
La historia de esta bodega comienza en 1898 cuando Nicola Catena emigra de Italia a Argentina en busca de nuevas oportunidades. Hechizado por Mendoza y su entorno, plantó su primera viña de Malbec allá por 1902.
