Stéphane and Séverine Branchereau have made Domaine des Forges a reference in Anjou, especially for their Chenin Blancs. They took over the running of this domaine of nearly 50 hectares in 2013 and are the fifth generation to take charge. The steeply sloping 33 hectare cru Savennières Roche aux Moines overlooks the Loire and is owned by eight producers. The still young 2019 has some honeyed notes along with a touch of oak. Full bodied, it is richly textured and very well balanced with racy acidity on the long finish. A lovely wine, it has great potential to age for several decades. I also tasted their 2019 Clos du Papillon, Savennières (91 points) and 2019 Audace, Anjou Blanc Sec (89 points). Drinking Window 2021-2035.
Aunque elabora también vinos secos, son sus dulces y licorosos blancos los que han otorgado fama a la familia Branchereau y a su bodega, asentada en Saint Aubin de Luigné, entre los ríos Loira y Layon.
