The Wine Advocate:

The 2017 Kalamity is a blend of 50% Tempranillo, 47% Garnacha and 3% Viura and Garnacha Blanca from different old vineyards in different villages, El Villar and Cárdenas. It fermented in concrete and oak and matured in 500-liter oak barrels and foudres for 12 months. All the wines have a theme, and in this case, the impacting image and label want to express Oxer's love for Shakespeare. The ripeness of the vintage comes through, especially when tasted next to the phenomenal 2018, but it's still harmonious and powerful but without edges. It has some grainy tannins, a bit Italian in a way; it has freshness and is sapid, very long, vinous and persistent. It's a noteworthy effort for the year. 2,600 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2019.

Tim Atkin:

Calamity is an equal blend of the best parcels of Tempranillo from Elvillar with old-vine Garnacha from Cardenas and a splash of Garnacha Blanca and Viura. Deeply coloured, wild and even a little funky, it's an ambitious, flag-wavingly different red with grippy, granular tannins, a ferrous undertone and a firm tannic backbone. 2022-30
