The Wine Advocate:

With a savory nose unlike any wine I remember to have tasted, the 2014 Phinca Encanto Rufete mixes notes of smoked sausage, wild herbs, iron and soil, complicated by flowers and an amaro-like note. It tasted of sour cherries, quinine and earth, very unusual and surprising. The grapes come from very old vines on granite and slate soils and fermented in open-top 500-liter oak barrels, where the grapes are foot trodden and fermented with indigenous yeasts. The wine matured in those same containers for two and a half years. Sampedro is going for long élevages for most of his wines, which tend to show quite stable and young when released a number of years after the harvest. Only 900 bottles were filled in September 2017.
