The Wine Advocate:

The first of the single vineyards, the 2012 Tebaida 5 is Mencía from a vineyard planted in 1903 at 700 meters altitude, which produces reds with the pH of a white (3.30). The grapes were foot trodden and fermented in open top 500-liter oak barrels. Malolactic was in new 225- and 700-liter French oak barrels. The élevage lasted some 18 months before the wine was bottled. At this point in time, the nose is completely dominated by oak aromas and it's impossible to penetrate the wall of spices, cured meat and smoky bacon. The palate shows the same, abundant, dusty and astringent tannins and an excess of oak flavors. May time tame the strong treatment? For fans of oaky reds. 1,841 bottles produced and filled in August 2014.
