The Eguren cousins are doing very exciting things at their urban Ukan winery, typified by the high quality of this pure Tempranillo from the three old-vine Laguardia parcels of El Estade, Valderromán and Zarzamochuelo. Subtle and stylish with nuanced oak, lively acidity, focused bramble and black cherry fruit and polished, textured tannins. 2024-30

I tasted again the 2018 Ukan that I had found too oaky previously. Now, the wine is absorbing the oak nicely and the freshness of the vintage is coming through. It was produced with Tempranillo grapes from old vines on limestone soils in the Rioja Alavesa. It feels very different from the wine I described last time. . . 15,700 bottles and 200 magnums produced.
