Uxía da Ponte 2019

The only varietal Lado I know, from a grape that might have originated in the Arnoia zone of Ribeiro and is perhaps related to Treixadura and Viosinho, is the 2018 Uxía da Ponte that José Estévez and his son Mauro produce. It comes from the grapes of the centenary vines that had already been worked by the previous generation despite their low yields, but it's produced in a very aseptic way. So, I can't really get to the character of the grape, and the wine comes through as clean, fresh and pleasant but without any special characteristics other than faint balsamic notes, hints of white flowers and fruit. It also has a fresh and medium-bodied palate with clean flavors and a quite tasty finish. 700 bottles were filled in August 2019. It would be interesting to see how this wine develops in bottle, as perhaps it might develop some distinct varietal character.
