The 2012 Gouveio Espumante Bruto (Vértice), disgorged in March 2020 (which is on the label) after 90 months on the lees, comes in with just three grams of sugar, 7.1 of total acidity and 13% alcohol. About 50% of the blend was aged in used French oak for eight months. This is the bottling that requires you to ask yourself: What type of drinker am I? This is not an easy and fruity sparkler. It's big, somewhat oxidative—notably more so than the Millésime—laced with yeast and toast and very complex. I won't say this is my favorite in the brand, but it offers something different and special. Whether you'll like it or not, is up to you. It's definitely not the right choice for a light sipper to pass around at a party.
