Jeb Dunnuck:

Based on a mix of Merlot, Syrah, and Sangiovese, the 2018 Promis has a Pomerol-like nose of ripe black cherries, damp earth, tobacco, and cedary spice. Medium to full-bodied and incredibly elegant, with silky tannins on the palate, this beauty just begs to be drunk, and I see no need to delay gratification. It should evolve gracefully for a good decade.

Decanter:

Piedmont legend Gaja's Tuscany outpost Ca' Marcanda produces a small range of wines using the region's main varieties. Promis is the estate's entry-level wine, a blend of Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese. Each variety is fermented and matured separately for 12 months in oak before blending and bottling. This has a delicious nose of crushed rock, fresh berries, herbs and barrel spices. In the mouth the ripe, concentrated red, black and blue fruits are super-soft, silky and inviting, while a subtle framework of grainy tannins and fresh acidity lend structure. Herbal touches appear on the mid-palate, while the long, fresh finish features bright red fruits and a touch of spice. An utterly gorgeous wine. Drinking window 2020-2025.
