El Piano 2014

The red Garnacha 2014 El Piano was produced with grapes from 35-year-old vines in the village of San Martín de Unx on clay and limestone soils at 600 meters altitude. The hand harvested grapes were destemmed, crushed and fermented with indigenous yeasts, and the wine put in used American oak barrels after malolactic in stainless steel for its élevage of 12 months. It has all the Mediterranean herb aromas of the best Garnachas, with a core of ripe red cherries and hints of spices, quite complete and with incipient complexity. The medium-bodied palate revealed fine chalky tannins and very tasty flavors, with a clean, long finish. A superb Garnacha for the price asked. 3,000 bottles were filled in December 2016. - Luis Gutiérrez.
