There is a new 2019 bottling of the NV Fino Capataz Solera de la Casa (not very explicit, marker L8295 on the back label). This is their very old Fino—averaging 12 years of age, which is the limit of life for the flor veil—that still has the biological notes in the foreground, esparto grass and iodine, with just a faint oxidative whiff of varnish and almonds. The palate felt softer than I anticipated, broader and velvety rather than pungent. There are full and half bottles, around 5,000 total. The price given is for a 750-milliliter bottle. - Luis Gutiérrez.
A very, very rich wine with almonds, toasted cream and hints of brittle. Full-bodied, very dry and flavorful. Delicious all around. Drink now.
At the limit of what could be considered a Fino (it's almost an Amontillado), the NV Alvear Fino Capataz was aged an average of 10 years in old, 600-liter American oak barrels. A deeper gold color is followed by notes of salted nuts, hints of caramel, brioche, and some cheesy, smoky notes. Some subtle Rancio notes, medium to full body, beautiful depth and richness, and a clean, crisp finish all make for a beautiful Fino.
De maravilla. Marida muy bien con un cocido madrileño. Gracias por vuestra recomendación equipo de Bodeboca.
