The 2015 La Fuga Finca A Xesteira is from a single parcel Albariño from a plot of very old vines on granite and red slate soils, within the limits of the appellation Rías Baixas, but they didn't seek the appellation of origin. The clusters were pressed and the juice put to ferment without letting it settle, with all the solids, like it was done in the past. The wine was kept in a 500-liter oak barrel for one year, and it has a spicy and smoky hint that gives it some extra complexity. It's developed, with some honeyed notes, good concentration and punch, with pungent flavors and great freshness, keeping the floral character of the variety. I am surprised by the quality, elegance and power of this Albariño. Well done! Unfortunately, only 640 bottles were filled from the barrel in January 2017. This is ready now, but the lively acidity should keep it for some time in bottle.
