Descrição

Este tinto é um dos mais bem sucedidos de Chapoutier. Elaborado a partir de Syrah, a uva clássica da AOC Ermitage, é um vinho excecional que recebeu cinco vezes os famosos 100 pontos Parker. Nesta colheita de 2020, destaca-se pela sua tensão e um final muito longo. Apesar do calor do ano, proporciona uma frescura avassaladora.

A entrega deste vinho está prevista para o segundo trimestre de 2023.

Vinha situada no cimo da colina de Hermitage, à volta de uma ermida (daí o nome). É certificada biodinâmica desde 1991.
Idade
Muitas delas são pré-filoxéricas e têm 120 anos.
Solo
Graníticos muito pobres.
Clima
A vindima de 2020 no Ródano teve um ciclo vegetativo semelhante ao de 2003, 2005 e 2015, uma vez que as temperaturas foram mais elevadas do que o habitual, levando a um rápido desenvolvimento da videira até à floração. Há 18 anos que não se registavam níveis tão elevados de stress hídrico, mas graças ao trabalho de observação e cuidado com o solo, a situação foi gerida, melhorando a concentração de açúcar e os níveis de acidez. Esta é uma colheita que irá certamente oferecer muitos sucessos no futuro, graças ao seu potencial de envelhecimento.

Vindima efectuada à mão. Colheita tardia.
Vinificação
Desengace. Fermentação em cubas de cimento. Esta fermentação dura cerca de 4 semanas, tempo em que a temperatura não ultrapassa os 30 ºC. Para a elaboração deste vinho é utilizado apenas o sumo de uvas de corrida livre.
Envelhecimento
20% das barricas utilizadas são novas, outras 20% têm uma utilização, 30% têm duas utilizações e as restantes têm mais utilizações.

If you ever wondered why Hermitage had such a special reputation then you need to taste this towering masterpiece of this appellation. Spectacular mountain freshness as well as enormous concentration and underplayed tannic power. The spicy complexity of this wine needs some time to unfold, but that is the best invested time I can imagine. Fabulous mineral freshness at the finish that you don’t ever want to let go of. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drinkable now, but best from 2026.

Jeb Dunnuck:

In the same qualitative ballpark as the Pavillon, the 2020 Ermitage L'Ermite is even tighter and more chiseled. It too is perfectly proportioned and insanely pure, with notes of crème de cassis, burning embers, blueberries, camphor, charcoal, and crushed stone. While the soils here are less granitic than from the Bessards, this cuvée always seems to show even more minerality in every vintage I've tasted. Incredibly concentrated, full-bodied, and yet still flawlessly balanced and elegant, it needs to be hidden in the back of the cellar for 10-15 years and should have 50 years of overall longevity.

Decanter:

A fresh, flinty aroma with blackcurrant underneath - enlivening nose. Great harmony, incisive freshness and remarkable drive. The fruit is fresh, pure and concentrated. Totally seamless on the palate, with incredible textural finesse. Very long. A profound Hermitage in the making, perhaps not one of great weight and authority, but one of incredible tension, freshness and precision. If 2019 was Thor, 2020 is Loki. Like all of the 2020 reds, its fruitiness and approachable structure will make many want to drink this young. You can - but this has serious ageing potential.

The Wine Advocate:

The 2020 Ermitage l'Ermite is a letdown only in the context of the incomparably magnificent 2019 version. The pure cassis fruit comes across as almost a bit one-dimensional, but that one fruit dimension is so broad and deep as to make any objections mere quibbles. Full-bodied and tannic, marked by a granite-rooted sense of austerity, the wine finishes silky, long and vibrant—another tour de force from one of Hermitage's most privileged sites.
