The Wine Advocate:

It's sometimes difficult to decide if a very old wine is red or white, but when it is produced with a blend of red and white grapes, it's even more difficult! Which is the case with the NV Ruby Asoleado 1904, a solera started in 1904 and fed with the fortified wine produced with red and white Garnacha grapes and bottled at 20% alcohol with some 200 grams of sugar. It reminded me very much of the NV Pajarete Solera 1851 Rancio I tasted last year, with its mahogany color with a bright amber border and a nose that has hints of a very old Pedro Ximenez from Jerez with its dry figs, dates and plums plus plenty of spices, and a rustic touch ('algarrobas', apparently carob or locust beans if that means anything to you) with a bittersweet sensation. It is sweet and generous, it fills your palate, it's dense and long, very intense leaving a flavor of roasted coffee, Indian spices and some chocolate intermixed with dry fruit and nuts. Complex and long as a sleepless night. Super! No more than 200 bottles are bottled per year and always according to the demand.
