The primary, fresh and young red 2020 Párpados wants to be a fruit-driven and soft wine with freshness and round, soft tannins, which is exactly what it is. That's easy to say but more difficult to do it, and here they have managed it, with spontaneous fermentations, short macerations and aging the wine in used barrels. It's ripe and juicy with 14% alcohol and good freshness, balance and acidity. The vines are worked organically but not certified. 7,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2021.
Based in the tiny village of Mélida, sisters Silvia and Miriam Herrera and Argentinian Fernando Valenti are making some of Ribera's most exciting boutique wines. Produced from purchased old-vine fruit in Quintanilla de Arriba and Olmedillo de Roa, this is a limestoneinfluenced style with ample freshness and focus, a hint of oak sweetness, dark berry reduction, lots of perfume and fine-boned tannins. 2022-28
