The 2020 Viñedos Viejos is a selection from northwest- and west-facing old vineyards on clay soils in Valtuille de Abajo. It fermented in 6,500-liter oak vats with some full clusters and uncrushed grapes and matured in 500-liter French oak barrels for 12 months. It comes from the warmer 2020 vintage when the wine reached 13.5% alcohol. It's aromatic and showy, ripe without excess, with some spicy notes from the barrel and hints of orange peel and wild herbs. It's medium-bodied with abundant, slightly dusty tannins. 15,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2022.
Wonderful nose of black fruits and violets. The palate offers modest concentration, crisp acidity, bold tannins and excellent persistence. Lovely wine.
