Reina de los Deseos 2018

The 2018 Reina de los Deseos is a single vineyard Garnacha from a mild and wet year that saw a late harvest of fully ripe grapes with plenty of flavors and still good freshness. The vines were plated some 70 years ago on a terraced east-facing plot at 950 meters in altitude on granite soils. The full clusters fermented in oak vats with natural yeasts, and the wine matured in used French oak barrels for 14 months. This is quite pale and has a delicate palate with notes of dry rose petals and faint spices. The palate shows terrific balance and filigree, the tannins are fine-grained, and it finishes very long and with precision. 1,669 bottles, 30 magnums and five double magnums were filled in March 2020. There will be no 2019 Reina de los Deseos, as the wine was tainted by the smoke of the wild fires that happened that year.
