A serious Rioja showing excellent depth of fresh blue and red berry fruit. Some spices, flowers, chili chocolate and a hint of sandalwood. Juicy, round and polished on the palate with a mouthful of dusty tannins that extend to a long finish. Drink or hold.
A single vineyard within a vineyard, Viña Gena comes from the oldest part of the estate, planted on sandy soils in 1930. More ethereal and perfumed than the regular Villota red, it's refined, nuanced and sweet, with vanilla and cinnamon spice, racy acidity, some mocha oak and a core of balanced red berry fruit.
