"The 2015 El Castro de Valtuille Mencía Joven is also fermented in stainless steel, but spends a couple of months in oak vats before bottling. Both young wines are sourced from a diversity of plots in Valtuille de Abajo, totaling some 60 hectares. There are some herbal notes intermixed with wild berries that transmit freshness; although these grapes are always destemmed, the feeling is a little of a full cluster fermentation. The palate is medium-bodied and quite straight, with good acidity and persistence. It feels like 2015 is a good vintage for the young wines. They have made these unoaked wines lighter by harvesting early since the 2013 vintage. 50,000 bottles produced."
A família Pérez dirige atualmente esta adega, mas esta linhagem, à qual pertence o famoso enólogo Raúl Pérez, está ligada ao cultivo da vinha desde 1752. [break]
Antigamente era conhecida como Herederos de Rosaura López Fuente, mas os seus netos, os atuais responsáveis, decidiram mudar o nome para Castro Ventosa, o mesmo que a jazida romana próxima da adega.
Hoje em dia, a adega pratica uma viticultura tradicional, combinada com a experiência que tem vindo a adquirir graças aos conhecimentos transmitidos pelas gerações anteriores.
