Lecciones de Vuelo 2020

The 2020 Lecciones de Vuelo by Dani Niepoort is the collaboration with Daniel Niepoort, who fell in love with their vineyards and is also going to produce wine regularly here. It comes from a centenary Garnacha vineyard called Pontigos (from which they produce their wine Señora de Las Alturas) on limestone soils. The grapes were foot trodden in three 1,000-liter bins, the juice was put in 500-liter barrel to ferment, and then it matured in 300-liter oak barrels. Another portion fermented in 700-liter amphora with a super long maceration and then matured in a used 500-liter barrel. This feels very different from all the other Zorzal wines. It has a pale color and some development, with sensations that remind me of aged Burgundy and even some reminiscences of a Viña Tondonia. It's spicy, ripe, a bit heady but elegant. It has 14.3% alcohol and very good freshness reflected by a low pH. It's a characterful and very different version of this vineyard. It feels as if it was an older wine. 1,000 bottles were filled in October 2022.
