Loco 2021

The white 2021 Loco was produced with the scarce Garnacha Blanca grape, a rarity in Méntrida. It was sourced from 72-year-old vines on sandy and clay soils where the vines deliver low yields. It fermented in barrel, and half of it was kept in barrel for six months and the other half in stainless steel vats. It's a powerful white, à la Rhône, round and lush, with 14.5% alcohol (it's a variety that needs to ripen and likes heat to develop its personality) and good acidity. It has varietal aromas of waxy apples, fennel and straw and a persistent palate. It has integrated oak. This bottling has a good track record for developing complexity in bottle. “Loco” is the Spanish word for “crazy,” and each bottle is dressed in a straightjacket!! Crazy! They are convinced this is the best vintage of this wine. 2,300 bottles were filled in August 2021.
