Decanter:

Founded in 2018, Badiola winery is in Rioja Alavesa, producing terroir-driven, site-specific wines from old, low-yielding vines. Due to DOCa regulations, the vineyard name isn't allowed on the label, hence the code: V1BN4 is Villabuena. There's also L4GD4 (Laguardia) and L3Z4 (Leza) – tasting all three together highlights the differences in terroir. Oak influence is minimal (44% of the wine was aged in new and used oak barriques) allowing plenty of fruit expression. Lovely intensity of aromatics: black berries, mulberry, plums and damsons with a hint of chocolate. Smooth attack, well integrated, fine tannins and lovely freshness, with a melange of dark berries and stone fruit. Rich and intense, it will benefit from decanting. Drinking Window 2021 - 2027.
