Vértice Gouveio 2014

The 2014 Gouveio Vértice Espumante Bruto, was disgorged in October 2021 (the date is on the label) after 77 months on the lees. It comes in at 12.1% alcohol. About 50% of the blend was aged in used French oak for nine months. The label here says "Gouveio," but that is a grape with a complicated history and lots of errors. It is actually, in the winery's plot here, Godello. Surprisingly fresh, a lot more than the Millésime, which had a similar time on the lees, this is bright and lively, energetic but refined. It's very tasty too. The winemakers explain it simply: "It's the variety." This is super, not as big as some years but always sophisticated. It should age well.
