Um vinho feito por quatro mãos, as de Thomas Farge e Stéphane Usseglio, ambos enólogos de renome do Ródano. Thomas assumiu a propriedade familiar do seu pai Guy na denominação de Saint-Joseph há alguns anos. O seu objetivo é oferecer vinhos que brilhem desde o início, mesmo que possam envelhecer graciosamente. Stéphane Usseglio, o atual proprietário do Domaine Raymond Usseglio, está comprometido com a viticultura orgânica e biodinâmica. É considerado uma das estrelas de Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Este vinho nasceu em 2019 após uma visita de Thomas a Stéphane. Foi a união do norte e do sul do Ródano. Por razões legais, a localização geográfica das parcelas das quais é feito o vinho não pode ser revelada.

Descrição
A Syrah pertence a Thomas Farge e as suas vinhas estão plantadas em encostas pouco profundas, expostas a sudeste e a leste. A Grenache e a Counoise são de Usseglio. Ambas as vinhas estão viradas para leste.

Granito para a Syrah, areia para a Grenache e seixos num leito de argila vermelha para a Counoise.

Agricultura orgânica. Vindima manual.
Vinificação
Três vinificações diferentes de cada casta separadamente. Para a Syrah: sem desengace, vinificação em cubas de aço inoxidável que favorecem a difusão suave dos polifenóis. Maceração de 30 dias. Para a Grenache: desengace parcial, fermentação em cubas de betão bruto com maceração a frio e difusão longa (21 dias). Para a Counoise: desengace total, fermentação em cubas de aço inoxidável com controlo de temperatura e maceração de 21 dias.
Envelhecimento
A Syrah é envelhecida em barricas de carvalho francês Alier. A Grenache é envelhecida em cubas de betão bruto. A Counoise é envelhecida durante 8 meses em demi muids Stockinger.

The Wine Advocate:

A lovely, ready-to-drink blend of 65% Syrah (from Thomas Farge's vineyards in the northern Rhône), 30% Grenache and 5% Counoise (from Usseglio's vineyards in the southern Rhône), the 2019 Vin de France Oxymore has turned out at the high end of my projection for it. Violet and menthol notes join hints of crushed stone and redcurrants on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is nicely crisp, silky and long.

The 2019 Vin De France Oxymore is a collaboration between Thomas Farge and Stephane Usseglio and checks in as a blend of 65% Syrah from old vines in the northern Rhône and 30% Grenache, and 5% Counoise. Possessing a deep purple/ruby hue as well as Syrah-heavy notes of darker, smoky red and black fruits, gamey meats, ground pepper, and violets, this beauty hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a seamless, elegant texture, and ultra-fine tannins. While the Syrah is front and center on the nose, the Grenache comes through more on the palate and this is just a beautifully elegant, seamless, undeniably delicious wine in the making. Enjoy bottles over the coming 7-8 years.

Stunningly deep nose of blackberries, wet earth and smoke that conjures up a picture of wind-swept autumnal vineyards after a hot, dry summer. Remarkable elegance and vitality on the full-bodied palate of this expansively aromatic yet very focused red. Quite some tannins, but they’re already well integrated. Long licorice and mineral finish. A blend of 65% syrah with 30% grenache and 5% counoise. Drink or hold.
