The 2021 Camiño Real has a primary and ripe nose, despite the moderate 12.5% alcohol, but a structured and balanced palate, showcasing the old vines from Amandi, combining orientations, altitudes and soils. It's 80% Mencía and the rest local grapes, Brancellao, Merenzao, Sousón, Caíño… It fermented with some 60% full clusters and the rest uncrushed grapes with 45 days of maceration, and it matured in a combination of 500-liter oak barrels and 5,000-liter oak vats for 10 to 12 months. There's something ethereal about it, medium-bodied with very fine tannins, a constant across vintages, more elegant than powerful. 30,000 bottles. It was bottled in August 2022.
This has expressive aromas of flowers and nervy red fruit character. The palate is savory and medium- to full-bodied with red berries and fresh acidity. This comes from the Amandi area from small parcels of terraced vineyards planted with mostly mencía and some brancellao, souson, mouraton, merenzao and others. This is an exceptional value.
