A Champagne Pol Roger criou o seu Prestige Cuvée em homenagem a Winston Churchill, atendendo às qualidades que ele valorizava no seu champagne: robusto, encorpado e com relativa maturidade. O coupage exacto é um segredo da família, mas é evidente que foi aprovado pelo homem a quem é dedicado e a quem se atribui a frase:«Os meus gostos são simples.»

Satisfazem-me as melhores coisas». É elaborado exclusivamente com uvas provenientes de Grands Crus, só é produzido nos melhores anos e é comercializado mais tarde do que os outros champagnes com colheita da Pol Roger, uma vez que Churchill apreciava os vinhos com maior estágio

Cor dourada com bolhas muito finas.
Nariz
Aromas de flores brancas e de padaria, especialmente brioche. Apresenta também essências de frutos secos, amêndoas torradas, avelãs e casca de laranja.
Boca
Poderoso e equilibrado, muito fresco, com notas cítricas e aromas cremosos de padaria.

Entre 6 e 8 ºC.

Vinha e preparação

Vinificação
O mosto é submetido a duas clarificações: uma na sala de prensagem e a segunda a frio, em tanques de inox a uma temperatura de 6 ºC durante 24 horas. A fermentação ocorre em tanques de inox a temperatura controlada abaixo dos 18 ºC, seguida da fermentação malolática.

There is a wonderful biscuity aroma to this Pinot Noir-dominated Champagne. Named after the British war-time prime minister and an avid consumer of Champagne, the wine is mature, full of ripe yeasty flavors and concentration. The wine, from a great vintage, is at a perfect stage and ready to be drunk. But the wine will also age for many years, certainly until 2030.

James Suckling:

Very complex nose with a wide spectrum of candied citrus, dried peach and mirabelle tart aromas. Bold and rich, particularly on the mid-palate, but with a great deal of subtlety and delicacy for the vintage. This is already delicious, but at the finish you really taste how this has been made for the long term. Great drive and persistence right at the end. Drink or hold.

A strong effort in a less-acclaimed vintage, Pol Roger's newly released 2015 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill opens in the glass with aromas of confit citrus, ripe orchard fruits and dried white flowers mingled with hints of honeycomb, freshly baked bread and anise. Medium to full-bodied, vinous and concentrated, with bright acids, chalky structuring extract and a pinpoint mousse, this inherently rather rich, gastronomic Champagne is quite tightly wound out of the gates and will reward a bit of bottle age. Stylistically, it is somewhat reminiscent of a modern-day version of the 1985.

Decanter:

Subtle and restrained pastry nuances with a hint of mushroom. Lots of seriousness and generosity of fruit but in a more restrained, quiet style. Gentle autolysis with mellow apple flesh and some earthiness, bright and classic. Elegant, with reserve wine complexity. Brisk on the finish with a nougat edge. Great stuff.
