Uma colheita de 2022 marcada, em geral, pela seca e altas temperaturas, apesar de um janeiro com temperaturas abaixo de zero. A primavera chegou aos poucos, com a menor pluviometria desde 1959. Em junho, tivemos a primeira onda de calor, então a poda foi reduzida ao máximo para que a sombra da folhagem garantisse a acidez natural das uvas. Graças à viticultura biodinâmica, as vinhas têm se adaptado ao aquecimento global.

Vindima manual.
Vinificação
Desengace completo e vinificação em cubas de cimento. A maceração é feita a alta temperatura para obter taninos suaves e equilibrados.
Envelhecimento
Estágio entre 14 e 18 meses em barrica.

Decanter:

High-toned, remarkably smooth, full-bodied and concentrated with marked acidity. Tannins are blocky and robust, but certainly ripe. Actually very elegant in fruit, with remarkable depth, power and freshness and a long finish, which is impressive considering the vintage conditions. Vines are around 50 years old, fermented in concrete, aged in recently used oak barrels for around 14 months.

The Wine Advocate:

One of the highest points in Chapoutier's lineup this year, the 2022 Ermitage Le Méal evokes aromas of violet, lilac, spices, pepper and dark berries. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and layered, it's more charming than Monier de la Sizeranne with a fleshier core of fruit and more harmonious, velvety tannins, concluding with a floral, ethereal finish. Delicately crafted and refined on the palate, this wine was fermented with 15% whole bunches and aged in a significant proportion of large barrels, 25% of which were new.

Jeb Dunnuck:

From a lieu-dit that may have struggled slightly in the vintage, the 2022 Ermitage Le Méal has a pretty, perfumed, medium to full-bodied style as well as perfumed aromatics of black raspberries, roasted herbs, graphite, and floral notes. It doesn't have the density of a top vintage here, but it’s clearly a gorgeous wine and has finely polished tannins, terrific balance, and a great finish. If it puts on weight over the coming year, the barrel score will seem low.
