Parker:

I found lots of notes of licorice in the 2019 Anza Especial. The wine is expressive and elegant, very approachable and much fresher than I expected from a warm and dry year. Diego Magaña likes to harvest early, and I think in 2019 he got it completely right: the wine is just below 14% alcohol and has a pH of 3.5. He selects plots where he finds something special, and this is his top cuvée, where he searches for finesse and precision. It has a medium to full-bodied palate with abundant chalky tannins and a long, dry finish. The vineyards bring different clones of Tempranillo but also other varieties that are intermixed in the vineyard—Graciano, Garnacha and perhaps up to 8% or 10% white Viura... The plots fermented destemmed separately in stainless steel and matured in used oak barrels for 14 months. 2,000 bottles were filled in January 2021.
