The Wine Advocate:

There is a special bottling that is only produced in certain years, which has only happened in 1999, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2010, 2011 and now 2016. The 2016 Son Negre, a wine that is always dressed with a different design from artist Miquel Barceló, who is a friend. This comes from vines that are very old; they don't know how old, but the main plot (as it can contain grapes from different plots in the Son Negre zone of Felanitx) can be 70 to 80 years old, and it's mostly Callet with a little Fogoneu and Mantonegro. It's produced in the same way as their AN—fermentation in oak vat with their own yeasts and matured in brand-new 225-liter French oak barrels. This is quite spicy and smoky but more perfumed and subtle, the finest and most elegant of the more-recent years of this bottling. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, still quite oaky but with great balance and freshness, and I believe it has what is needed to absorb all that new oak and be one of the finest Son Negre to date. 1,800 bottles were filled in May 2018.
