Nariz
Destaca-se pelos seus aromas a frutos azuis e pretos, notas amargas de casca de laranja sanguínea e uma expressão floral de lírio e violeta.
Boca
Apresenta uma frescura, suavidade e cremosidade sem precedentes, resultado da Merlot, enquanto a Cabernet Sauvignon lhe conferiu uma estrutura tânica precisa e inconfundível e mineralidade, confirmando o caráter elegante, a potência contida e a classe das grandes colheitas. Por fim, a Cabernet Franc proporciona sensações florais e etéreas.

Vinhas convertidas a 100% para agricultura biológica na sua segunda colheita com certificação oficial e com práticas biodinâmicas (65% da vinha).

O inverno correspondente ao ciclo da colheita de 2022 foi ameno e seco, dando lugar a uma primavera temperada, na qual as geadas surgiram no mês de abril, obrigando a acender velas na vinha para evitar que os botões fossem afetados pelo frio. Superada esta situação, no início de junho, ocorreu na zona uma violenta tempestade de granizo que, felizmente, e ao contrário do que aconteceu noutras propriedades, não causou danos à vinha do «château». No entanto, a 30 de junho, Pichon registou o dobro das precipitações mensais habituais (120 milímetros), com o consequente risco de míldio. O perigo dissipou-se com o início de uma longa seca, no início de julho, que só foi ligeiramente atenuada por episódios esporádicos de chuva em julho e agosto, suficientes para que a Cabernet Sauvignon pudesse amadurecer plenamente. A harmonia reinante no final do verão acabou por propiciar uma colheita mais precoce, mas de alta qualidade.

30 hectolitros por hectare.
Colheita
A vindima manual teve início em 6 de setembro e concentrou-se ao longo de três semanas.
Vinificação
Elaboração de cada parcela separadamente. Encubamento das uvas por gravidade em depósitos cónicos de inox termorregulados.
Envelhecimento
Estágio de 18 meses em barricas de carvalho francês (60% novas). Trasfegar tradicional «à l'esquive» (isto é, através do orifício localizado na parte inferior do fundo, denominado falsete ou esquive).
Engarrafamento
Após a clarificação com clara de ovo.

The 2022 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande has turned out even better in bottle than I anticipated, bursting from the glass with aromas of cassis and blackberries mingled with scents of licorice, violets and pencil shavings. Full-bodied, layered and enveloping, it's suave, seamless and complete, with faultless precision, pristine integration of tannin, controlled sweetness and a long, expansive finish. The 2022 manages to unite the sensuality that's the estate's calling card and the ripeness of the vintage on the one hand, with a sense of Pauillac classicism on the other, threading the needle to deliver one of the finest wines of the vintage and a benchmark Pichon Comtesse. It's a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc that spent 18 months in barriques (three months more than was formerly the case), two-thirds of which were new. As I wrote en primeur, there's more than a hint of the 1982 about this wine, and like the 1982, the 2022 will offer an exceptionally wide drinking window.

What perfect aromas of blackcurrants, lead pencil, violets, blood oranges and blood. Some iron. Medium- to full-bodied, this has incredible tannins that are completely loaded and integrated, melting into the wine with such a glorious mouthfeel. The finish goes on and on, lightly austere in the most sophisticated way. Racy and rigorously focused. 78% cabernet sauvignon, 17% merlot and 5% cabernet franc. Try after 2030, but already a new benchmark for this estate.

One of the gems from Pauillac is unquestionably the 2022 Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse De Lalande, which is 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. A hypothetical blend of the 2019 and 2020, it's a full-bodied, concentrated, opulent Comtesse offering beautiful blue fruits, some chocolate, leafy herbs, and undeniable minerality, ripe, velvety tannins, and a great finish. Despite the higher Cabernet Sauvignon component, this stays silky, expansive, and incredibly sexy. It's going to be drinkable with just 4-5 years of bottle age but should have a lengthy drink window. Hats off to director Nicolas Glumineau for another legendary wine from this château.
