The Wine Advocate:

The 2011 Single Vineyard Las Compuertas Malbec comes from an old massale selection of Malbec grown at 1,070 meters of altitude in one of the higher and cooler zones of Luján de Cuyo. It was matured in oak barrels for 18 months with frequent rackings to obtain a bright and limpid wine without filtration. It feels like the barrels lent more sweet spice aromas and flavors (vanilla, cinnamon) to the Malbec than to the Cabernet. The texture is fine, the tannins are sweeter and there is a lush characteristic to this Malbec that has good concentration and power combined with certain elegance. It has some bitterness in the finish that might point to a slightly excessive extraction. I have the feeling this could be much better. 40,000 bottles produced.

- Luis Gutiérrez.

Decanter:

Vivid expression of Malbec with silky fruit and precise freshness. Elegant oak and supple tannins, with spicy edge. Mouthfilling with a long, savoury finish. - Sarah Jane Evans. Master of Wine.

WE:

Concentrated blackberry and prune aromas are wrapped in a blanket of chocolaty oak. Side-to-side jamminess and beefy tannins make for a full-force mouthfeel, while minty blackberry flavors end plush but with focus. Herbal notes of rosemary, thyme and mint add complexity. Drink through 2024.
