Descrição

A Syrah da parcela Neve, na comuna de Ampuis, beneficia de uma orientação muito privilegiada na encosta e de uma gestão biodinâmica. É um tinto profundo com traços distintivos muito marcados, dominado por notas de grafite e fumo. Na sua primeira colheita, 2015, obteve 97 pontos Parker. Uma estreia em grande estilo para uma Syrah tremendamente promissora da Côte Rôtie, que nesta colheita de 2020 se apresenta como extraordinária nas palavras da própria adega.

As vinhas situam-se numa encosta da aldeia de Neve, no município de Ampuis, com uma exposição sul-sudeste.

Clima
A colheita de 2020 no Ródano teve um ciclo vegetativo semelhante ao de 2003, 2005 e 2015, uma vez que as temperaturas foram mais elevadas do que o habitual, levando a um rápido desenvolvimento da videira até à floração. Havia 18 anos que não se registavam níveis tão elevados de stress hídrico, mas graças ao trabalho de observação e cuidado com o solo, a situação foi gerida, melhorando a concentração de açúcar e os níveis de acidez. Esta é uma vindima que irá certamente oferecer muitos sucessos no futuro, graças ao seu potencial de envelhecimento.

Vindima manual.
Vinificação
Desengace. Fermentação espontânea durante 5 semanas com leveduras indígenas em cubas de betão sem ultrapassar os 30-32 ºC. Pigeages. A maceração completa-se com a agitação das borras durante as últimas 3 semanas. Transferido para barrica depois de escorrido e decantado durante 24 a 48 horas para eliminar as matérias sólidas remanescentes e as borras mais espessas.
Envelhecimento
Estágio de 14 a 18 meses em barricas de carvalho francês de 228 litros. Entre 25% e 30% das barricas são novas.

How is it possible to marry this kind of syrah power with the extraordinary refinement of this Cote-Rotie? It just glides effortlessly over your palate. Then, right at the end, the power creeps up on you and inexorably pulls you into its orbit, as if this was the planet Jupiter. Amazing mineral intensity at the dazzling finish. From a vineyard at the north of the appellation on pure mica-schist soil. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold.

Jeb Dunnuck:

Brilliant all the way, and possibly the finest vintage for this cuvée to date, the 2020 Côte Rôtie Nève is 100% Syrah from mica schist soils in the northern part of the appellation and was destemmed and is still resting in 30% new demi-muids. Gorgeous pure cassis fruit as well as crushed stone, graphite, and violet notes define the bouquet, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with terrific concentration, ultra-fine yet certainly present tannins, and a great finish. This structured yet flawlessly put together Côte Rôtie will benefit from short-term cellaring and keep for 15-20 years.

Decanter:

A little spicier and earthier than La Mordorée this year, more savoury. Medium-bodied, precise and dry - packed full of dense, ripe tannins. Very ripe, with a good sense of harmony and integration. Excellent balance. Long finish. Ripe and seductive, without overt oak influence. The alcohol is high but doesn't feel unbalanced thanks to the concentration of fruit.

The Wine Advocate:

The 2020 Cote Rotie Neve is full of purple raspberries but dressed up with hints of dried herbs, particularly mint. It's medium to full-bodied, not as rich or complete as the Mordoree, but it is silky, elegant and long. It should be another terrific vintage of this relatively new parcellaire bottling.
