Descrição
Nova colheita deste monovarietal de Tempranillo, proveniente das vinhas de San Vicente, no coração da Rioja Alta, cultivadas segundo os princípios da agricultura biodinâmica. Após a fermentação, uma parte do vinho é transferida para barrica de carvalho francês, onde permanece por cerca de 12 meses, enquanto o restante é deixado em depósito. Não é feita a colheita de sulfito.

The red 2023 Guardaviñas was produced with Tempranillo from a plot he works biodynamically, 0.56 hectares in El Bardallo in San Vicente de las Sonsierra on limestone and sandy soils, produced without any additions, not even sulfur dioxide, throughout the process, which is stabilized by time and temperature. The destemmed but uncrushed grapes fermented with indigenous yeasts and then 40% of the volume matured in French oak barrels for 13 months and the rest was kept in stainless steel. It has good ripeness this year, when the grapes ripened thoroughly and developed more aromatic compounds, reaching 14% alcohol, with a pH of 3.5 and 4.59 grams of acidity. 2,151 bottles produced. It started a little rustic/earthy, but it settled in the glass to more precise and focused aromas. It has a medium- to full-bodied, balanced yet powerful palate with very fine, chalky tannins. 2,167 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2024.
Abel Mendoza and Maite Fernández were ahead of their time when they made their first wine without added sulphites in 2013. Aged in 40% new oak, this biodynamically farmed Tempranillo has structure and concentration to spare, flavours of plum and black cherry and an earthy, petrichor finish. 2026-28.
Dried black-fruit character with violets, iodine and mussel shells. Lots of mulberries on the palate with chewy tannins and a tight, medium-long finish. 100% tempranillo. Try in 2027.
