El Hato y el Garabato Otro Cuento 2023

The white 2023 Otro Cuento was produced with grapes from old vineyards planted like yesteryear, with a high percentage of white grapes dominated by Doña Blanca and maybe 10% others, like Puesta en Cruz, Godello, Albillo, Verdejo and others. The vines are on granite soils at 700 to 800 meters in altitude in the villages of Torregamones and Fermoselle. They believe Doña Blanca is quite expressive of granite, and I can only agree; the wine comes through in a mineral, austere and saline way. It's a grape that is very transparent with the terroir, not only with granite. This year, they macerated it with the skins and stems for one day, which has given the whites a slightly deeper color; it was then pressed, and the must fermented in a 1,500-liter oak foudre, something new this year, where the wine matured for 10 months. It has 12% alcohol, a pH of 3.3 after full malolactic and a bone-dry finish. This is superb. 1,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2024. (Luis Gutiérrez)

This shows aromas of apricots with a subtle floral touch. The palate is tender and medium- to full-bodied with subtle fruit, brightness and good balance. It’s round but not flabby, very well composed. Fleshy and delicate at the same time, with a saline thread that follows through to the finish. Drink or hold.
