Esta parcela está localizada em Valtuille de Arriba, a 650 metros de altitude. Vinhas conduzidas em espaldeira.

Clima
Colheita seca e quente, em que choveu metade da média e as temperaturas foram elevadas durante todas as estações. A brotação começou normalmente no final de março e o início da floração na última semana de maio. O verão foi um dos mais longos e rigorosos dos últimos anos, com várias ondas de calor e temperaturas muito elevadas. A falta de humidade favoreceu a concentração e a saúde dos frutos.

Entre 4.000 e 5.000 quilogramas por hectare.

A vindima teve início no dia 28 de agosto.
Envelhecimento
Estágio de 12 meses em barricas novas e usadas de 500 litros de carvalho francês.

The Wine Advocate:

The varietal red 2022 Valeyo has a clear Mencía profile (it also has 5% Godello) and was sourced from the Miguel Rey three-hectare vineyard in the village of Valtuille de Arriba. The vines are at 650 meters above sea level on sandy soils and are worked organically and biodynamically but still not certified. The destemmed but uncrushed grapes fermented in concrete with indigenous yeasts, and after malolactic, the wine matured for one year in new and used 500-liter French oak barrels. It shows a combination of wild berries, herbs and flowers and has a medium-bodied palate with abundant tannins and some faint rusticity. It feels a little riper at 13.5% alcohol and has some oak notes to be integrated with some more time in bottle. 2022 was a warm and dry year in the zone, with very high temperatures in the summer, and they started picking very early, on August 28. The wine has a seductive and fragrant style with fine tannins and is round and without edges but keeping the tension and freshness, reflected by a pH of 3.6. 12,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2023.

Bodegas Mauro sources grapes for this wine from four vineyards in Valtuille de Arriba and Villafranca del Bierzo. Mencía (with just a touch of Godello) was fermented in concrete and then aged for 12 months in 500L French oak, resulting in a polished wine with silky tannins and some chocolatey sweetness. Violet aromas with raspberry and red cherry create a Castilian style of Bierzo with real intensity and structure, balanced by marked minerality. 2024-30
