Pale ruby with a dark, complex and vibrant nose of prunes, roses, violets, balsamic, licorice and restrained peach peel. On the palate this is concentrated, with a full body, firm yet ripe tannins and crisp acidity. Overall more powerful than elegant, but very refined in the finish. It could use a bit more depth, but with bottle aging it will increase in complexity.
The Giovanni Rosso 2020 Barolo Cerretta, with fruit from Serralunga d'Alba, is quite generous and ripe, owing to sunny vintage conditions. It opens to a dark ruby color and pretty concentration with perfumes that are fine and elegant; they recall lavender, wild berry, plum and rusty nail. The Cerretta vineyard delivers a lingering sense of sweetness, and that becomes a signature for this wine. These results are immediate and up front.
Enticing aromas of cinnamon-dusted cedar and sandalwood intertwine with dried cherries, rose petals, and a hint of sage. This full-bodied wine boasts a firm structure, while the palate reveals blackberry and plum flavors.
